She was very patient and encouraging. In just several months, Jonathan’s technique and musicality significantly improved. His cello voice matured dramatically under her tutelage. Jonathan became equipped with the skills to perform with confidence and passion. During the two years with Dr. Lee, Jonathan was selected as 4th chair cellist of the All-Virginia Orchestra (2025 and 2026). He was co-principal cellist of the American Youth Philharmonic for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons. During the 2025-2026 season, half of the American Youth Philharmonic’s cello section consisted of her students. Three of the eight cellists selected for the 2025 Summer Residential Governor’s School for the Performing Arts were her students as well. Dr. Lee was the cello teacher with the most students selected for the 2025 North Eastern Virginia Senior Regional Orchestra and the 2026 All-Virginia Orchestra, for which auditions are blind. With her many years of experience in performing and teaching, Dr. Lee shared a lot of wisdom and practical advice with Jonathan.
